Immigration law changes frequently and without warning. Statutes are amended, regulations are revised, agency policy shifts, litigation alters practice, and filing fees, numerical limits, processing times, and procedural deadlines all move. Pages on this site are reviewed on a schedule, but a page that was accurate when published may not be accurate when you read it. Confirm anything you intend to rely on.

No attorney-client relationship

Reading this site, sending a message through the contact form, scheduling a consultation, or emailing or calling the firm does not create an attorney-client relationship. An attorney-client relationship is created only by a written engagement agreement signed by both you and the firm.

Until that agreement exists, information you send is not protected as confidential and is not covered by the attorney-client privilege. It may also be information the firm cannot receive at all if it would conflict with an existing client's interests. For that reason, please describe your situation in general terms and do not send documents, Alien Registration Numbers, receipt numbers, passport numbers, dates of birth, or other sensitive personal information until we are engaged and I have sent you a secure channel.

Scope of practice and jurisdiction

Daniel L Carpenter is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts only. Practice before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the U.S. Department of Labor is federal, and a lawyer admitted in any state may represent clients in those matters regardless of where the client is located. The practice is limited to employment-based immigration. It does not include asylum, removal defense, or the immigration consequences of criminal matters.
